beyond glad that I did pick up One Dark Window
— Abigail Books Addiction

I typically don’t read gothic fantasy books, but I was very intrigued by One Dark Window. I saw it all over Instagram, so it piques my interest even more. And I am beyond glad that I did pick up One Dark Window. It’s truly my favorite read so far, and it started my fantasy reading marathons.

One Dark Window brings Elspeth spiraling out of control, but in her mind. Yes, that’s right. She is fighting with a monster in her head. It may be crazy to say, but monsters are able to be trapped in your mind, or head, per se, when you keep using their magic. In this fantasy book, magic is used when you collect a significant card that reflects the power of the monster occupying the cardsake. And that’s what happened to Elspeth, who looked into the monster card. She may not know it yet, but she soon will.

Elspeth tries her best to be normal in her village since possessing certain types of magic is prohibited. It’s becoming harder lately, though. She keeps running into problems, especially when she meets Ravyn, the King’s nephew and Captain. It may be inconvenient for Elspeth, but they are destined to meet. They are meant to help others.

Elspeth and Ravyn don’t trust each other since they both have much at stake if they expose the truth. Yet slowly, they become closer and closer to each other. Their attraction and romance are unexpected since they mistrust each other so much, but they can’t deny how much they truly want after discovering all of the cards. It gives off enemies to lovers vibes.
