sounded so appealing for any gothic fantasy readers

I have seen this book all around Tiktok, and I had to get my hands on it ASAP. Just from the premise of it, it sounded so appealing for any gothic fantasy readers. And lately, I have been enjoying a few gothic fantasy books.

The Foxglove King brings Lore closer to home when she gets captured and recruited to find out who is behind the latest small town murders by using her secret powers. Well, she thought it was a secret until now (we will later get to that). Now, she has to use her skills in raising the dead and spying on the king's only son.

Nothing is ever easy in Lore's life. She tried her best by escaping the cult and starting over. But she has the incredible gift of being able to use death magic, which is heavily prohibited. And she tries her best to avoid using them. She does her best by becoming a skilled spy within the mortem drug ring.

The thing about Lore is that she is loyal to her people, which can be hard to do when she ultimately gets caught using her secret skills to help someone else. This is why she comes face-to-face with the Presque Mort (warrior monks). It’s not ideal for Lore because they are known to prosecute anyone who practices death magic, as she just did. Good thing (well, actually bad), they actually need her help. And that’s where the deadly games begin.

And let me tell you that it’s a deadly game from the middle until the very end. I won’t go any further, but I will say that the beginning is a bit slow, but it does catch up. Expects so many surprises along the way, as well as a few deadly betrayals. Expect the unexpected. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
